Spartan Stadium will play host to 12th ranked Ohio State (5-1) -a 3.5-point favorite- and 20th ranked Michigan State (5-1). Since 1993 the Buckeyes are 4-1 against MSU when the Spartans are ranked.
Ohio State is 12-5 when the game is played in East Lansing and leads the series 26-12.
Javon Ringer comes into this game leading the nation with 1,112 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
The Spartans are not shy to give the ball to Ringer as he accounts for ninety percent of their rushing yards.
Quarterback Brian Hoyer is the man responsible for getting the ball to Ringer, but when Hoyer does pass Mark Dell and B.J. Cunningham are his primary targets.
Defensively Michigan State has made 9 interceptions with five players having at least one interception. Safety Otis Wiley leads the Big Ten with 4 interceptions.
The View
Most people are focusing on the poor play of Ohio State’s offense. However, this game may be decided on the play of Ohio State’s rush defense.
In years past the Buckeyes have faced running backs with gaudy numbers and Heisman hopes that have had those numbers and dreams dashed because of Ohio State’s stifling defense.
To win this game the Buckeyes’ defense will have to add Javon Ringer to the list of highly touted running backs that have been shut down in the recent past.

No. 11 Missouri at No. 1 Texas (Minus 7)
Texas leads the series 15-5. The last meeting was in 2005; Texas won 51-20 in Columbia.
Last week’s epic game between Oklahoma and Texas featured two high-powered offenses directed by phenomenal quarterbacks. This game should feature more of the same.
Chase Daniel’s bid for the national championship and Heisman trophy took a hit last week. However, Daniel is still ranked third in the nation in total offense and has the fifth highest pass efficiency rating. The Tigers’ offense is more than just Chase Daniel and his arm. Derrick Washington, Jeremy Maclin and Chase Coffman are a big reason Missouri’s offense is ranked third in the nation in passing, total and scoring offense.
Texas can equal Missouri’s offensive firepower with Colt McCoy, the running back duo of Chris Ogbonnaya and Cody Johnson and receivers Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley. The Longhorns are scoring 46.8 points per game and were able to put up 45 against a very talented Oklahoma defense.
On top of the skill on offense, Texas’ defense is holding opponents to under 16 points a game. The Longhorns’ defensive line, led by Brian Orakpo, leads the Big 12 with 22 sacks.
The View
Texas’ defensive line will relentlessly put the chase on Chase Daniel and Colt McCoy and the Longhorns offense will find Missouri’s defense to be sub par to Oklahoma’s. Next week should feature undefeated Texas hosting undefeated Oklahoma State.

NO. 16 KANSAS AT NO. 4 OKLAHOMA (MINUS 18)
History is on the side of Oklahoma (5-1) to shake off a Texas-sized hangover on the Jayhawks (5-1). The Sooners lead the series 66-27-6 and are 35-13-3 when the game is played in Norman. Oklahoma currently has the nation’s longest home winning streak with 20 straight wins.
Although quarterback Todd Reesling and receiver Kerry Meier are great players they won’t be able to overcome Kansas’ history against ranked teams. The Jayhawks are 25-138-2 against ranked teams and 8-65 against ranked teams on the road. Even more daunting is that Kansas is 5-46-1 against top 5 teams.

N0. 22 VANDERBILT AT NO. 10 GEORGIA (MINUS 15)
Georgia (5-1) leads the series 48-18-2. The Bulldogs are 24-4 against Vanderbilt (5-1) in Sanford stadium, but the Commodores won 24-22 the last time they played in Athens in 2006.
This will be a week of change for Vanderbilt. Junior Mackenzi Adams is replacing starting quarterback Chris Nickson. Nickson should have seen the change coming, as the Commodores, under his command, are ranked 116th in the nation in passing offense. Vanderbilt is also ranked last in the SEC and 106th in the nation in passing efficiency.
The other change for Vandy comes in the win/loss column. Last week Mississippi State defeated the Commodores 17-14 for their first loss of the season.
Homecoming has been a welcome tradition at Georgia. The Bulldogs are 67-17-2 in Homecoming games and are 17-3 against Vanderbilt in such games. The Georgia Alumni will celebrate another Homecoming victory against Vanderbilt.

At 3:30 on ABC Purdue (2-3) will play 12th ranked Ohio State (5-1) in the Horseshoe as a 19-point underdog. Ohio State leads the series 36-12-2 and defeated Purdue 23-7 in West Lafayette last year. 1988 was the last time Purdue won in Columbus.
Purdue’s Curtis Painter has already passed for 1,225 yards this season and is 13 yards shy of becoming the fourth Big Ten quarterback to throw for over 10,000 yards in a career. However, Painter played poorly last week and was replaced by Joey Elliott in the 20-6 loss to Penn State. Will Joe Tiller have a quick hook with him this week?
Running back Kory Sheets-Purdue’s all-time leading touchdown scorer-accounts for 85 percent of the Boilermakers’ rushing yards. Receivers Desmond Tardy and Greg Orton have combined for 55 receptions 792 yards and three touchdowns.
Jim Tressel should be ecstatic about this year’s football team. Not because Beanie Wells is healthy, not because Terrelle Pryor is better than expected, but because of the punting game. A.J. Trapassso leads the Big Ten and is 11th in the nation averaging 44.9 yards a punt.
THE VIEW
Statistically Ohio State has the Big Ten’s best pass defense. If the Buckeyes can hold Purdue-the Big Ten’s best passing offense-to 155 passing yards they will send Joe Tiller and his mustache off into the sunset with his 17th straight loss to a ranked opponent.

No. 5 Texas at No. 1 Oklahoma (Minus 7)
Texas leads the series 57-40-5. Oklahoma won 28-21 last season.
The Red River Rivalry has everything you’re looking for in a big-time college football game. Both teams have offenses that average over 47 points a game and hard-hitting defenses that allow less than 14 points a game. The field will be littered with future All-Americans and NFL players.
Oklahoma is the top-ranked team in the nation for good reason. The stellar and accurate quarterback Sam Bradford leads the offense. Bradford has four weapons in receivers are Manuel Johnson and Juaquin Inglesias and running backs DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown. To go along with Oklahoma’s potent offense is a defense that keeps opposing offenses to under 98 rushing yards and collects 3.4 sacks a game.
The passing and running of Colt McCoy-103/130 passes for 1,280 yards and 16 touchdowns-along with the bull rush from Longhorns’ defensive linemen Brian Orakpo, Sergio Kindle and Aaron Lewis will carry Texas and Mack Brown to a rare victory over Oklahoma.

No. 4 LSU at No. 11 Florida (Minus 5.5)
This will be the 55th meeting between LSU and Florida. LSU won last season 28-24, but Florida leads the series 28-23-3.
This game not only features two of the best programs in the country, but also two of the best special team players. You may not want to take an early restroom break when either team lines up to punt. LSU’s speedy Trindon Holliday is second in the nation in punt returns. He is averaging over 25 yards a return. Florida has a game breaker in the shifty Brandon James. He is ranked 7th in the nation in punt returns and 11th in kickoff returns.
LSU’s defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois said that the Tigers are “…going to try our best to take him [Tebow] out of the game.” With defenses on the field that are primed and ready to knockout opposing offensive players a punt or kickoff return could be the game changer. We’ll have to wait and see if Tim Tebow finishes the game, either way Brandon James should return Florida back to a victory against LSU.

Tennessee at No. 10 Georgia (Minus 12.5)
Tennessee leads the series 20-15-2 and the Volunteers have won the last two contests by a combined score of 86-47. An 18-13 victory in 2002 was the last time Georgia defeated Tennessee in Athens.
Storm clouds are forming over the Rocky Tops. In the past Phil Fulmer has been able to side-step talks of his firing/resigning by winning big games. He says he’s not worried about his job, but after getting smoked by Florida for a second time in as many years and squeaking out a four-point victory against Northern Illinois Fulmer is switching quarterbacks this week.
He is replacing Jonathan Crompton with Nick Stephens. A move that isn’t surprising considering the fact that the Vols rank 98th in passing offense, 106th in scoring offense and 109th in passing efficiency. With a loss to Georgia the next change at Tennessee might be the hiring of a new head coach.

No. 14 Ohio State (4-1) will play against 18th ranked Wisconsin (3-1) as a 2-point favorite in Madison. 2003 was the last time the Buckeyes played at Camp Randall Stadium and they lost 17-10. Ohio State leads the series 50-17-5, but Tressel is only 2-3 against the Badgers.
Wisconsin doesn’t hide the fact it is a run oriented team. The Badgers average 218.5 yards rushing a game. Starting running back P.J. Hill has already amassed 449 rushing yards and four touchdowns in four games. To put that in perspective, Ohio State’s Dan Herron and Beanie Wells have combined for 457 yards and five touchdowns.
When Hill needs a spell Wisconsin calls upon John Clay. Clay averages 6.6 yards per carry and has rushed for four touchdowns.
Wisconsin’s offensive line has not only produced large holes for Hill and Clay, but has also kept quarterback Allan Evridge well protected. The O-line has only allowed four sacks this season.
Ohio State’s offensive line hasn’t been as solid in pass protection. The Buckeyes are ranked 103rd in the nation and are allowing a league worst 2.4 sacks per game. Fortunately for Ohio State those numbers may improve, Wisconsin’s defense has only recorded five sacks in four games.
THE VIEW
This season Terrelle Pryor has thrown for 296 yards and has rushed for 292 yards. Pryor and the Buckeyes’ offense may need to gain that many yards in this game to take care of the Badgers. Ohio State’s new backfield won’t give Wisconsin’s fans much reason to be jumping around at the end of the game.

No. 13 Auburn at No. 19 Vanderbilt (Plus 4.5)
Last season Auburn defeated Vanderbilt 35-7 to take a 20-19-1 lead in the series. However, the series isn’t as close as the series record may indicate. That’s because Auburn (4-1) has won 13 straight games against Vanderbilt (4-0). The average score in those thirteen games was 36-12. 1955 was the last time Vanderbilt defeated Auburn.
For Vanderbilt to end this streak they will need to rely on key plays on special teams and defense. Special teams punt return man D.J. Moore leads the nation averaging 29 yards per return. The Commodores have been getting key plays; that’s why they lead the nation with a plus-nine turnover margin.
Auburn’s offense hasn’t looked stellar under the direction of quarterback Chris Todd. Todd has thrown more interceptions (4) than touchdowns (3). However, Todd and receivers Robert Dunn and Rodgeriqus Smith should find the passing skies to be friendly against Vanderbilt’s 93rd ranked pass defense.

No. 23 Oregon at No. 9 USC (Minus 16.5)
A warning to Pete Carroll and the rest of the Trojans, don’t look past Oregon. Although USC leads the series 36-16-2, Carroll is only 3-2 against the Ducks. Oregon (4-1) defeated USC (2-1) 24-17 last season in Eugene.
Oregon State’s short passing game and short running back, Jacquizz Rodgers, gave USC fits last Thursday. This week Oregon’s offense is going to feature two talented running backs in LeGarrette Blount and Jeremiah Johnson. Blount has already rushed for 481 yards and eight touchdowns this season. Johnson is right behind Blount having rushed for 440 yards and six touchdowns. Unfortunately for Johnson and Blount USC’s defense is going to make those stats go up in smoke.
If Southern Cal gets an early lead this game could get ugly.

No. 5 Texas at Colorado (Plus 14)
Texas leads the series 9-7 and Mack Brown in 5-1 against Colorado. 2005 was the last time Texas (4-0) and Colorado (3-1) played. Texas won the regular season game 42-17 and the Big Twelve Championship Game 70-3. 1940 was the first time they played. The 2001 Big Twelve Championship was the last time Colorado defeated Texas (39-37). 1996 was the last time Colorado defeated Texas in Boulder.
Texas’ Colt McCoy is having a stellar season. The junior quarterback has completed 80/100 passes for 1,018 yards, 14 TD and 1 INT. On top of that McCoy leads the Longhorns with 278 yards rushing 4 TD and averages 8.2 yards per carry. Colorado’s defense should be a good litmus test as to how good McCoy is. The Buffaloes defense is ranked second in the Big 12 by holding opposing offenses to 163 passing yards a game.
Quarterback Cody Hawkins, son of head coach Dan Hawkins, and freshman running back Rodney Stewart lead Colorado’s offense. Stewart, a Columbus native, has been an exciting player to watch as he splits time with Darrell Scott in the backfield. All three players may find the experience against Texas’ defense to be daunting. The Longhorns are holding opponent to 52.5 rushing yards a game and are averaging a nation’s best four sacks a game.

Florida State at Miami (Minus 2.5)
This will be the 53rd meeting between Miami (2-2) and Florida State (3-1). Miami won 37-29 last season and leads the series 28-25. Miami won the first contest
Not many points should be scored in this match up. Although the Seminoles are averaging an ACC best 39 points per game the bulk of those points were racked up against Western Carolina and Chattanooga. Miami’s defense, led by Glenn Cook, will fare better than Western Carolina and Chattanooga.
Miami’s Quarterbacks Robert Marve and Jacory Harris and running back Graig Cooper are talented, but the Hurricanes are ranked 98th in passing offense and 99th in total offense. Not a good sign when they will be facing Florida State’s defense that is second in the nation averaging 9 tackles for loss per game, 8th in the nation in rush defense and leads the ACC with 13 sacks.
